Having worked for 35 years as a psychiatrist and a business owner, I’ve had a front-row seat to observe the deep intertwining of ignorance with corrupt behavior. After years of dedicated observation and analysis, I have arrived at a conclusion: ignorance is a primary driver of corruption. In particular, the interconnection of ignorance, lying, and our narcissistic need to avoid embarrassment — to avoid shame, even if it involves resorting to violence — is quite startling.

Today, let’s delve deeper into this subject and discuss ten reasons why ignorance is a primary driver of corruption.

Before we begin, let’s clarify what we mean by ‘ignorance.’ It refers to a lack of knowledge, understanding, or awareness about something. It’s important to remember that ignorance is not an insult; it’s a state we all share in various areas of our lives. We cannot know everything. The issue arises, however, when people are ignorant of their own ignorance, and often project it onto others.
